Metering devices and gateways can communicate data to the AiElements platform in various ways. When HTTP communication on port 80 is used, you need to test first the Internet access point with your laptop to ensure that the network and firewall are configured properly to allow HTTP outbound traffic to AiElements.
The idea here is to configure your laptop with the same network settings as your metering devices, and initiate traffic that would simulate real data traffic from the devices. For that, you must first connect your laptop to the cat5 cable provided.
You have a Windows laptop
A. Right click on the network icon at the bottom right of your screen, and select Open Network and Sharing Center.
B. Click on Change adapter settings.
C. Right click on Local Area Connection (also called Ethernet Connection) and select Properties.
D. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties.
E. Select ‘Obtain an IP address automatically’ if DHCP is used to provide an IP address to the meter. If a static IP address must be used, select ‘Use the following IP address’, and enter the same network settings as the meter you are installing (static IP address, netmask, Gateway IP address and DNS servers).
F. Click OK twice, and reboot your laptop for the new IP settings to be applied to your network card.
G. Open your web browser and go to 54.171.49.210/measurements/v2/unifiedjson/?stream=DATASTREAMID
If you see a pop-up window asking you to authenticate, then it means that the Internet access point is correctly configured.
Anything else means that your Internet access point is not correctly configured (e.g. firewall rules may need to be updated, cabling may need to be changed, etc). Please make the changes necessary until your Internet access point works correctly.
You have a MAC laptop
A. On the upper left corner click the Apple icon then select System Preferences.
B. Under System Preferences select Network.
C. Select the Ethernet interface where you want to assign the static IP Address. Click the lock to make changes, it will prompt you for your credentials – your username and password – to make changes on the network settings.
D. Under Configure set the option to Manually and enter the same network settings as the meter you are installing (DHCP or static IP address, netmask, Gateway IP address and DNS servers).
E. Click Apply, and reboot your laptop for the new IP settings to be applied to your network card.
F. Open your web browser and go to 54.171.49.210/measurements/v2/unifiedjson/?stream=DATASTREAMID
